Aligners
Aligners (sometimes referred to as ‘liners’) are sets of plastic casings. Each casing is placed around one tooth, with one set surrounding your upper or lower row of teeth (or a portion of that row, depending on how many of your teeth need to be realigned). The shape of an aligner is designed based on a computer scan of your teeth and mouth, and when worn, the casings adjust the alignment of your teeth.
Because of this, aligners are usually recommended for fixing mild or moderate misalignment of teeth.
Severe misalignments usually require braces, but a consultation is still necessary to determine if this is the case for you, since aligners are capable of solving a wide array of misalignments. Aligners also come with significant benefits – little to no pain for the entire period you have them on (unlike braces), and they are removable at any time, if necessary (also unlike braces).
For aligners, we currently offer Invisalign. Most aligners are very similar or identical to Invisalign though, and the differences are only relevant on a case-by-case basis. Since it is a specific product/service and not a general procedure, these differences are best discussed with Dr. Young Nam Kim, D.M.D.
